Walker's meals haven't all been "brown bag"
MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Records show Republican Scott Walker’s campaign for governor has spent thousands of dollars on meals, sometimes at expensive restaurants, despite his claim he is so cheap he packs his lunch every day.
Walker’s campaign has launched a Web site, www.brownbagmovement.com, where he talks about packing his brown bag lunch to save money. Supporters can even buy lunch bags that promote his anti-tax philosophy on the site.
But campaign finance records show Walker’s campaign has piled up big tabs at some restaurants for meetings, including more than $2,000 at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Middleton in October.
Jay Heck of Common Cause in Wisconsin says the campaign’s free spending on meals does not square with the image of the candidate it is promoting.
Walker campaign spokeswoman Jill Bader says that criticism is absurd and the spending was appropriate.

*Yes he should brought his bagged lunch, ask those to attend to do the same.Eliminates the need for a high faluting restaurant.Use a public park.*
A public park?? Six months out of the year, parks are not hospitable places to do large-scale business. Even still, if someone on either side of the fence had used public land to campaign, the other side would complain about that, too.
The crux of the matter is: are campaigns allowed a certain amount of public funds? Are campaigns allowed to spend this and/or any private funds they raise in any legal manner they choose? If so, this is a non-story--no matter who it is about.

ah. nevermind. keep up the good work RAF.
"In the Slaughter Solution, the rule would declare that the House “deems” the Senate version of Obamacare to have been passed by the House. House members would still have to vote on whether to accept the rule, but they would then be able to say they only voted for a rule, not for the bill itself."

The hilarity of the left against Walker is joyous to watch.
Here is a party, with supporters, that are standing behind the Nebraska cornhusker agreement bribe, Louisiana purchase bribe, the Florida gator bribe, 17 house members under ethics investigations, and with house leadership currently trying to craft a rule saying a bill was passed without ever taking a vote for the bill in the first place; ref slaughter mess.
These same dem supporters dig so deep into Walker looking for dirt and the best they find is of the +$370,000.00 dollars he gave back from his own salary, voluntarily, he should have done more. And the lunches he packed for work, like many Americans, he didn’t do while on the campaign trail.

Scott Walker is not my idea of a good candidate for governor. He stands for things I don't agree with. However, Mark Neumann is a very nice man with a good record of public service, and is the first republican I would consider voting for.

*The point is that this guy says he's a regular joe to try to win your vote but he's just another elite living high on the hog. *
I'm confused. Should this candidate have packed a brown bag lunch for the dozens and dozens of people at this campaign event?

The point is that this guy says he's a regular joe to try to win your vote but he's just another elite living high on the hog. And if he lied about brown bagging it all the time, he's not going to have trouble pretending to be tight on the budget while giving plenty of luxurious state hand outs to his friends. Bottom line, if you still believe this guy, you will believe anything.

Whew! At least the AP is focused on the important things and not distracted by smaller stories like what effect the hundreds of billions in tax increases in ObamaCare will have on Wisconsin jobs, or why Pelosi sat on info regarding sexual harassment by one of her house members (Massa), or any number of less important things.

And the point is?
-
I assume many of these were fundraising and networking dinners for a large number of people. Even an *extremely* frugal feed for 200 is going to cost over $2000. If they had details, like the national story about Nancy Pelosi's extreme luxury spending not so long ago did, that would be different. As it is, this is a useless piece of reporting, because it doesn't give us any real facts. It's like saying "Joe Schmoe isn't frugal -- he spent $1000 today!" and forgetting to mention that he what he spent it on was paying his mortgage or buying a used car.

JimB, for you to conclude the Walker campaign are big spenders in comparison to other candidates you would need to read other stories; like this one http://www.620wtmj.com/news/local/876164...
If you read, the numbers not the words, you can understand Barrett outspends Walker. How? Easy, if you bypass the conclusion portrayed by the writer and editor of the story and look at the data yourself.
The numbers show Walker data from the 2nd half of 08 and all of 09; ~547 days. The Barrett data is only from the 2nd half of 09; ~ 182 days. This breaks down to Walker spending $44 per day and Barrett spending $54 per day.
But then, do you really expect to read the whole story from the press?

@ j'villecomments, The full AP story does address the spending habits of the other campaigns as well. Tom Barrett and Neumann have spent some on fundraising meals but have not, as a matter of course, used campaign funds to feed the candidate and his staff. Those $2000 steak dinners are strictly a Walker deal.
What Walker eats isn't a concern to anyone. The disconnect between what he says and what he does should be. Walker is a big-time spender who talks a good game. He's laid off security staff at the courthouse and maintenance staff at the Parks department both of which are clearly going to cost more in the long run. His short-sightedness will cost Milwaukee County millions of dollars and he'll have walked away on his quixotic quest to be governor.
Don't fall for it, Wisconsin. Scott Walker is even more of a lightweight than he appears at first glance.

Sandman misses the point. This guy's big campaign schtick is he's a regular, brown-baggin kinda guy. Like the other Republican in this race, the one who says he isn't a full-time politician -- but see, that's only because he's lost the majority of the, what, seven campaigns he's run in the last 15 years or so.

He opened the door to such criticism by making the claim that he is a brown-bagger. However, I didn't hear of anyone censuring Sheridan, and his "dating" of a lobbyists when he was considering a regulatory bill on her industry has a directly corrosive affect on the government.

It would have been a clever idea, if not for those big restaurant bills in his campaign finance records. How about a follow-up story comparing all the Gubernatorial candidates campaign spending to date? We might embarrass one or two of the players out of the race if we see how much and on what they are spending money on to win the election.
