UPDATE: Vehicle crash kills Clinton woman
CLINTON TOWNSHIP—A Clinton woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash was discovered early Monday morning.
Rock County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with Clinton and Beloit Fire Department crews responded to the scene at 5:46 a.m. today at 11939 E. County X, between Carvers Rock Road and Summerville in Clinton Township.
After hitting a snowdrift, 47-year-old Maria T. Palencia DeGarcia lost control of her vehicle, which then hit a tree, according to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The driver was pinned inside the vehicle and unconscious, according to initial reports.

She was on her way to work when the accident took place. It is not that she was driving fast, but that she could not control the vehicle once she hit the drift. It is a tragedy for her family, the loss of their mother, grandmother and wife. Her youngest child is only 10 years old and is now going to grow up without her mother. It is a huge loss for such a tight knit family.
snazzy* as for your comment, which yes you do have the right to speak, but you also have the right to use your sences when it comes to a subject like this. her family is already hurting enough and for one of them to read a comment about her immigration status would just be even more devestating for them. and for your information yes she was legal and yes she did carry a drivers liscence. May God Bless You!

the situation of either driving too fast for conditions or inattentive driving?
there isn't always someone to blame in a tragedy like this one.

Bradford Township is contracted to Silha for plowing and roadwork. They suck for plowing and roadwork. I work out that way and we have to plow our own road to get in and out. You can clearly see the difference where the County trucks turn around in on Avalon Rd. We were told there is 1 plow truck for all of Bradford Township. There were 4 cars in the ditch last Friday at 8 am just on Avalon Rd. Last summer they resurfaced the road with loose black top and never packed or swept it. It is still loose under the snow and ice. It made for very loose corners and ruts when the tractors drove on it. I feel when it comes to our roads a standard must be set and enforced.
WHERE IS THEIR INSPECTOR?

I wondered myself where the plows were when I had to go out later last night. I hadn't been out all day and when I hit the first drift, I almost lost control. I saw it only seconds before hitting it and had thankfully been able to slow down enough to maintain control. My prayers and thoughts go out to this woman's family!!!

That stretch of 14 is terrible. Why don't they put some of that "drift" stuff out there! That fencing stuff or something.

I can't believe this!!! I live on County A. There was 4 run offs in a matter of 2 hours. There was at least 8-10" of drifted snow on the road. Every time a deputy would respond! A plow truck did not come for 2 hours and 21 minutes after the first run off! I understand its a budget thing, but come on! If we can make high water signs, make some drifted snow signs, or something to make sure these incidents don't happen. This is terrible! They should have been out a long time ago!!!

The short four-lane section on 14/11 east was drifted in the left lane as well. The car ahead of me was in that lane passing when he got to the corner at Hwy O and he lost control. It must have been Steve McQueen because he made an excellent recovery after sliding onto clear pavement.

There were two vehicles off the road on Hwy A East where I call turn #2 East of Johnstown. A truck on it's side, and a smaller car stuck in the snow bank. The sheriff was already there when I passed them. I wasn't expecting all the snow on that road either.

Gazette staff, since you removed Snazzy's post that I was referring to, please feel free to remove my previous response to it -- out of respect for the deceased, there is no further need for this discussion in this forum.

Gazette - Show some frickin class and stop letting comments be posted on tragedies like this. Seriously. If people want to comment in a polite manner, they can go to the funeral home website and do so. Ya know, friends and family. Otherwise, there's no reason to allow it here.

Snazzy, nice -- let's use news about the death of a woman who has a latino name to start another tirade about "illegals," based on your sheer speculation about the deceased's immigration status, since you apparently have no more facts than are in this report. How early in 2010 for the cad of the year award to be earned.
