JANESVILLE -- The incoming snowstorm will mean no trash collection Tuesday in the city of Janesville.

"Due to the expected extended duration of the forecasted storm, all collection personnel will be needed for winter weather operations," according to a news release.

Trash and recyclables that were scheduled for pickup Tuesday will be collected the following week, on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Affected residents should follow their regular recycling collection schedule thereafter.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For questions or concerns, please contact the City Services Center at 755-3110," the city news release states.

neweyes - Depending on where you live, your trash day pickup varies. They aren't picking up the entire cities trash on the same day.

When trash pick up is postponed because of a holiday, it is picked up the next day. Why wait a week? Even if the storm had materialized as predicted, 5 or 6 inches of snow isn't that much. This isn't an area where we are unaccustomed to snow.

Why not just put a snowplow on the front of the garbage trucks. Streets get plowed. Trash gets picked up. Everyone is happy.

OMG! Some people are so pathetic. How can you seriously get up in the morning, look in the mirror and be happy with the outcome. What do you gain by constantly ripping on your community? So a little garbage won't be picked up. I think you will survive. But wait, the next comments will come after the snow when you cry about the job the plows did.
-
Here is a thought. Life is too short. If you think you are being productive and getting anywhere by constant complaints, you are sorely mistaken. Try doing something positive for your community. Like moving.

I didn't know trash collectors could drive plows. Wonder if they are the ones who tear up the lawn when they plow...

Hank is an internet troll imho (look the term up and his previous rants lol, noone can be so ignorant), so ignore him. I was already worried about my trash cans being hit by a plow, so I know enough now not to put them out. Just have to worry if my mailbox gets hit again, sorta cool to point out to my wife all the bent ones down thw street when she tells me to fix ours the next time. Thanks Gazette for the warning.

Boy, Hank is all about saving government money, but don't you dare make him put out the trash half as often -- you'll be sorry!

No bassman, she is right. I'm no longer in the area but I check back once in a while to see whats going on in Janesville. And let me tell you, there is more negativity on these discussion boards then any I have seen on the internet. And when I left, I also noticed right off, that for the most part, people are a whooooooole lot friendlier elsewhere.

ms-sassy-wi I am sure the world is just perfect for you! if we as tax payers and or consumers did not complain, service in general would suck as your comment did,I'm sure in your perfect little world everything runs so smooth you have no complaints, go take a nap!!

The difference between Alliant and the city of janesville is minimum staffing, your garbage man is the plow driver. So the question is: do you want your trash picked up during the day then pay the same person overtime at night to plow? or readjust their schedule to work their 12 hours when needed during the storm?

probably wouldve been smarter to say "okay if we get that much snow the garbage employees are going to be re-assigned to plowing, but if not garbage collection will resume as scheduled?!" that would make more sense to me, granted i do want our roads to be safe but what if this snow storm doesnt come?? then we have people who have not put out their garbage and they resume collection?!

The garbage collectors are not taking a day off. They are re-assigned to drive plow trucks for big storms. They will be out there working tomorrow. If they were collecting tomorrow, then all you people would be griping about the poor plowing job. Geesh, some people here can do nothing but complain, complain, complain.

I'm pretty convinced that people in Janesville are not happy unless they can complain. It doesn't matter if it makes sense...just as long as they are complaining. That's what matters.

I'm betting the garbage men are happy about this. Last week the garbage men were following the plow drivers.....who went through (my street at least) and did a great job of blowing everyones garbage all over the terrace with the snow coming off their plows. My whole street had their garbage cans blown nearly back to the middle of the driveways with a nice trail of garage strewn about. Great job guys and thanks for the foresight. I look forward to the trash and recyclesables that will re-appear and blow around when the snow melts.

My recycling last week was a day late too. It must have been because they were getting the plows ready for tomorrow. Do I get my recycling picked up next week as scheduled or is my one bin supposed to hold a months worth of recycling now? Please advise.

This world is becoming to sissified......What a joke! if the power goes out does the Alliant crews postpone their duties? NOT!!!! Last week we had 3 " of snow and they the city did not finish the day.I was a garbolajist for 13 years in another state we never had a snow day. It's called customer service.Yes I could understand if we had 14-15 " of snow but I think they are jumping the gun to much lately.

I wonder if they got the call in the middle of picking up my trash today? Since they only took HALF the bags and STILL have not picked up the Christmas tree that I so nicely cut in sections for them.

Read the storm warning details from the NWS and then quit posting the traditional idiotic comments. The way the public works department has handled the snow this winter has been great due to the fact that they have been prepared. A false alarm is much better than poor plowing.

2-4 inches of snow predicted for tonight and another 2-4 for tomorrow. So, does that mean Wednesday pick-up will also be cancelled? This city doesn't look bad enough with the un-shoveled walks and drives because of all the properties that are for sale? Lets stack 2 weeks of trash on every curb we can. Mr. Levitt must have Monday pick-up.
