ELLSWORTH, Wis. (AP) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says it seized 1,500 cases of food stored under what it calls unsanitary conditions at a warehouse in Ellsworth.

The FDA says in a news release that the food was seized Tuesday at Mid-States Closeouts, a distribution warehouse, under a warrant issued by a federal court in Wisconsin.

U.S. Marshals seized all FDA-regulated human and animal food susceptible to rodent and pest contamination or other filth.

An FDA inspection in November and December found widespread rodent infestation, including numerous gnawed packages of human and animal food.

However, the agency says it hasn’t received any complaints of illness or death associated with food distributed by Mid-States Closeouts.

A call to Mid-States was not answered Wednesday evening.

SarahB1, I don't know how the federal system works, but local health inspections typically allow a period for correction, after which more serious action is taken.
.
I wouldn't make the assumption that any local retailer has been selling contaminated goods. The FDA will know if there was any reselling and to whom and would be following that supply chain.

JAYT why would you suggest sending infested food to Haiti? They are human people just as you are. Maybe you should consume it. And I to think mid-states is the steak trucks I just seen one yesterday at the gas station. I did not but anything, though they asked me to lol.

JAYT,
would you eat food that had rodent infestation?
Of course not.
The people of Haiti have enough to deal with. They don't need sickness added to their worries.

Those little white trucks come out of Brew Town. Also the person who's moms buys stuff at crazy Frank's needs to start looking at the dates ASAP. Some are 6 month past the dates. Be a smart shopper look for dates no dates no buy. Most thing you eat today should come with a sell by date.

Big Lots is also a retailer of "closeouts". Not sure if this is one of their vendors or not.

They seem to sell the stuff online, so it's not clear that it's actually *distributed* anywhere. They really seem more of an end-of-the-line place.

Wonder if they distribute to any stores in the Janesville area?
