Intoxicated pregnant woman holds up restaurant
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — Intoxicated and pregnant, a La Crosse woman is accused of trying to hold up a Taco John's with a hammer.
Police say the 38-year-old woman told the cashier Tuesday night — "I want a soft shell and this is a stickup. Give me all your money."
The woman then could not manage to get the hammer out of her pocket. The cashier pressed the restaurant's panic button and called 911 as the woman fled.
Minutes later, police arrested the woman, who had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit to drive. The La Crosse Tribune reports the woman told police her roommate threatened to evict her if she didn't come up with money for crack cocaine.

Pity the child...another unwanted baby produced by an idiot, faced with alcohol and drug poisoning in utero, to produce another idiot.
>>>
Then "We The People" can support the unfortunate child.

How does this NOT qualify as child abuse?

thekid, aren't you going to say that if she was high on reefer instead of drunk she'd only be pregnant and hungry and not violent?

If her husband was unable to get the hammer out of his pocket she wouldn't be pregnant.

yeah, I'm guessing alcohol is a problem, but she likely is also addicted to crack, based on the statements she offered about her "roommate"....

oldtimer, I kind of doubt they would have given her "all your money" simply because she told them she was hungry. She wasn't arrested for wanting a soft shell taco she was arrested for demanding money while armed with a hammer.
moby6400, thanks that's hilarious.

Well this one apparently wanted the Taco Bell workers to get hammered like her.

raoul_duke, I think that was pretty nasty of you to call me a biddy because I give a d@#n about a baby whose loser of an incubator is causing it a potential lifetime of issues. If she assaulted the baby after it is born, she would be hauled up on all manner of charges.
And considering that SW2008 has indicated that it could indeed be possible that she be detained for the duration of the pregnancy, despite your holier-than-thou, all-knowing comment, and considering I am a mother and by your screen name I suspect you can never be one, your opinion certainly isn't any more valid than mine. Also, do you think I have never heard a play on my name before, most of which were far more clever? Sheesh.

So, as a rule, do we now not allow anyone who's been arrested for armed robbery while intoxicated to care for children?

TJRockCounty, bunelyn said "By that age most women know how NOT to get pregnant", not "can't get pregnant".
Hopefully a sympathetic judge will set bail so high she can't make it and the DA's office can stretch out hearings and appearances and continuances until the baby is born.
Memo to the prosecutor: Don't forget to check into the roommate.

Bunelyn- Who says you can't get pregnant at the age of 38? Women do it all the time with little or no risk. You need to come into the year 2010.

CPS could petition for jurisdiction of the baby. It is called a UCHIPS (Unborn child in need or protection or services). With this petition, CPS could place the mother in a safe house or rehabilitation center until the baby is born. Then they could remove the baby from the mother's care at birth.

I think what we are missing here is that the woman was 38. By that age most women know how NOT to get pregnant and not to drink while pregnant. Obviously she is incompetent, so maybe the state should be able to detain her, for her own safety of course.

This is why we need some sort of licensing system to allow people to have children in this country.

Pituitary overdrive! Hopefully she gets a psychological evaluation. There are low dose treatments that are safe during pregnancy for extreme cases of bi-polar behavior and/or anxiety and depression.

And no joy, Joy, Wisconsin only has the law that self-righteous biddies can shut their trap because the state does not control a person's body even if the person is carrying a, "pre-born person."
I agree there are grounds for CPS to assess the fitness of the mother (who might still be in jail then) when the baby is born, and if the baby has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome I don't know if the mother can or can not be charged with some criminal statute.
But again, no joy, Joy, the state will not be "detaining" to protect the unborn baby from the mother's decision to drink. The criminal charges for the robbery attempt are another matter.

It doesn't actually say whether she was driving or not, as it doesn't list the actual charges on which she was arrested. I agree, the child should be taken from her at birth for its own protection. Does Wisconsin have the law where pregnant women can be detained until they give birth to protect the child from the drugs or alcohol the mother wants to imbibe?
