Agency head to testify about Wisconsin Shares problems
MADISON — The head of Wisconsin’s state agency that licenses child care providers is scheduled to testify before lawmakers amid numerous problems with the welfare-to-work Wisconsin Shares program.
Last week an audit revealed that four licensed child care providers had the same address as registered sex offenders. And an earlier audit found nearly $20 million in improper payments made last year under the program.
Lawmakers have expressed anger with the ongoing problems and are pushing a number of law changes to strengthen the program.
Department of Children and Families Secretary Reggie Bicha is speaking before the Legislature’s budget committee on Tuesday at the request of its co-chairs.
