Wis. utility plans upgrades at river stations
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Power and Light plans to make improvements at electricity-generating dams on the Wisconsin River.
The utility wants to make upgrades at its Prairie du Sac and Kilbourn hydroelectric stations. Both plants were built in the early 1900s.
The first stage calls for adding several hundred tons of soil at the Prairie Du Sac station's embankment. That portion of the project is expected to cost $600,000 and wrap up in November. Work began this week.

Yeah, not much of your conspiracy theory makes sense, Joze. Among other things, dams need constant maintenance just for safety purposes -- it's required by federal law. And the fact is, as you state, a major customer left town -- just as the recession hit and the need for surplus energy on the grid declined. Alliant can't put the electricity in batteries and hold it until the economy improves.

Rock River and Blackhawk plants on the Rock River were coal fired converted to natural gas. They weren't hyrdros like Prairie du Sac and Kilbourn.
Get your facts straight before you start whining.

But WP&L closes their Rock River operations? I thought hydro electric was to expensive when wholesaled on the national grid? I have a feeling we are being duped and "didn't need" this extra energy on the grid offering a local surplus that would have reduced wholesale price. *GASP!* Everyone knows that a majority of manufacturing has left Rock County Alliant. Your excuses are vain however lobbying is excellent.
