Wis. bill would speed up NFL teams' Lambeau trips
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Senate is set to consider a bill that would allow NFL teams to run red lights on their way to Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
The bill would permit police to escort any vehicle processions through red lights.
Police asked for the bill to clarify whether they could escort processions through stoplights. So did the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, where Green Bay Packer opponents stay, also asked for the bill to ensure teams get a smoother ride to Lambeau Field — and keep the teams coming to their hotel.
The state Assembly approved the bill in June.

I think those idiots in Madison should be working on how to get jobs back in this state. The packers aren't going anywhere the last I heard. If they are so worried about this maybe they should stay at one of the hotels right by the stadium. Besides the fans bring in the money up there.

I would love a escort every a.m. to get through the traffic at school. That would be so cool.

This is STUPID on so many levels. First our elected representatives wasting time evaluating it and second the idiot who brought up to begin with.
These people are just football players and deserve no more special treatment than any other citizen. Don't get me wrong, I love football, but they have no right getting through traffic any easier than a mother picking kids up from school.

Security for visiting teams is standard in every market.

Is this common practice in other towns at well? Does Dallas give visiting teams a escort? Just curious.

This practice has been going on for years, until some whiner cried about having to wait for the motorcade last season. All the police want is clarification to the rules of escort. The cost is a drop in the bucket compared to the money these teams bring in, so the benefit far outweighs the price tag. Also, the GB hotels are not trying to get this business, they are 100% booked for game weekends without the hassle of securing and catering to the visiting teams. They turn more profit hosting fans.....

Oh my gosh, can you imagine Brett Favre getting a escort to the Greenbay Vs Minnesota game as a damn viking? That thought makes me want to puke.

Mac...are you kididng? The players don't decide whether or not they want to play a game in Green Bay. They go where the schedule dictates. Do you really think a team is going to decline to play in GB because of the traffic to the stadium? If these totally ovepaid primadonnas can't spend an extra ten or twenty minutes in traffic on their way to work, there is something wrong with them.

The Outagamie County Sheriff's Department has actually been doing the escorts for years. A quick look around shows that escorts are routine in other cities as well. It doesn't look like any state money is involved, as far as I can tell.
.
Part of the issue is that hotels in the city of Green Bay would like the business of hosting out-of-town teams, so Outagamie County (not Brown County, where Lambeau Field is located) is protecting a local Appleton business. The other hotels are trying to get the NFL to consider the trip from Appleton a security risk.

both of you are dumb if you don't realize how much money these teams bring in to Wisconsin. Just the sales taxes alone, keep them happy and they will be more than happy to come to a small town. Last i checked, Green Bay is not a metropolitan with an interstate directly into the stadium.
This is good for everyone. keeps everyone safe.

Are you kidding? Tax payer money is being spent on this foolish idea? Not to mention the tax dollars that would be spent each time it happened.
