Horses get out just like cats get out, and they can get as lost and scared as any domesticated animal. Good luck to the family finding it before the weather turns ugly.

h0rselvngrl, we can always second guess people but unless you are there. SHHH.. You don't know they did not go after the horse. It is some very thick areas that could have made it very hard regardless. Poor baby I hope he is found soon, safe.

My only question is WHY oh WHY did they not jump on another horse and go after it? There is NO way I would EVER NOT follow one of my horses if spooked. We have had a horse run 5+ miles at a full gallop and still have found him.
******
Where were they that they could not go after the gelding right away? And why didn't they tie to something more solid instead of a "bush".

I think there is more to this story than we are getting, or it seems so.

It left because it was scared. THIS horse was not at home, it was in a strange place. The poor baby, neonate must not know much about horses.

Horse is probably living a better life now. why else would an animal who has every thing provided want to leave unless it hated where it was at.

This is so sad, I saw the flyer at Piggly Wiggly this a.m. My heart goes out to that family, that horse must be so scared. I hope he is found soon.
