Democrat to challenge incumbent Wis. treasurer
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A budget analyst for the city of Madison says he intends to challenge incumbent state Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass for the Democratic nomination next year.
Dan Bohrod announced his candidacy on Monday. Sass is a first-term Democrat whose office has been besieged with questions lately over a backlog in processing unclaimed property claims, her decision to force out her chief deputy, and to hire her niece for a part-time summer job.
Bohrod says he was motivated to run in part over those recent problems.
The 50-year-old Bohrod is a budget analyst for Madison and was formerly a policy analyst for the state departments of Public Instruction and Corrections.
Madison real estate investor Jason Punzel is also running for treasurer as a Republican.

The accidental treasurer could use some stiff competition.
