Victims of Belmont fire identified
BELMONT, Wis. (AP) — Police on Sunday identified the father and daughter who were killed in a house fire in the southern Wisconsin town of Belmont.
Firefighters were called to a split-level home in the small Lafayette County community about 4 a.m. Saturday. Police Chief Kurt Malott (mah-LOT’) says the victims were 38-year-old Cory Burgess and his 8-year-old daughter, Destiny Burgess.
Malott says the fire apparently started in a bedroom area of the lower level. The cause remains under investigation.
Destiny was a student in the Belmont School District, which will have additional counselors on duty Monday.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
