Two die in southern Wisconsin fire

BELMONT, Wis. (AP) — Two people have died and another has been injured in a house fire in southern Wisconsin.

Firefighters were called to a split-level home in the small Lafayette County community of Belmont about 4 a.m. Saturday.

Police Chief Kurt Malott (mah-LOT’) says a male and female died in the fire and a male was injured.

Malott says the origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by state and local officials.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
