MADISON — The speaker of the state Assembly has stripped a fellow Democrat of a committee leadership position.

The affected lawmaker says it is because of an abortion-related vote.

Rep. Bob Ziegelbauer of Manitowoc says Speaker Mike Sheridan told him on Thursday that he would no longer be chairman or a member of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

Ziegelbauer says it’s because he voted to prohibit payments to hospitals for late-term abortions. Sheridan spokeswoman Casey Slaughter confirmed Ziegelbauer had been relieved of his chairman position. She would not say why.

Ziegelbauer frequently votes with Assembly Republicans even though he’s a Democrat.

Ziegelbauer screwed up. Had he followed the examples of the House and Means Committee Chairman of the US Congress, perhaps he could still have his job. http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?pa...

Man, that Mike Sheridan is a great guy. Been a real boon to the people of Janesville. Take a look around.

Sheridan "aborted" Ziegelbauer's political aspirations. On the other hand, perhaps he's planning on switching parties and being axed by "HurtMaster" Sheridan will be a plus for the next election.

Isn't the Democratic Party supposed to be the party of tolerance? I thought that is what they like to call themselves.

The fact that people buy into the concept of bi-partisanship in first place is a testament to how gullible people are and why this state and nation is as bad off as it is.

Sheridan is "putting the hurt" on the Ways and Means Committee.

It's about time. Committee chairmanships are not a right, they are a privilege, and a DINO should not be running the show (do you hear me, Max Baucus?)

So much for reaching across the aisle and doing things with bipartisan support. Guess the Speaker is just a party line guy after all.
