BELOIT, Wis. (AP) — The City of Beloit is paying $20,000 to settle a civil lawsuit from a man who blames his wife's death on negligent emergency medical care.

Plaintiff George Watkins sued the city and its fire department, as well as six paramedics and firefighters.

He says emergency personnel failed to properly insert a breathing tube for Mary Watkins in August 2006, then failed to notice the problem. He says the mistakes led to his wife suffering physical injuries, emotional trauma and death.

The city denied the allegations and turned the matter over to its insurance carrier.

Watkins later offered to settle the complaint for $20,000. The City Council agreed this week to accept the deal.

City Attorney Tom Casper says both sides felt the amount was reasonable.

But the point more being, the city settled. You would be hard up for money as well if you had to bury a family member its not cheap.
