From the WCLO newsroom:

A Beloit teen was killed last night in a shooting on the city's east side.

Captain Bill Tyler says the victim is identified as Gina Zamora of 1676 Wisconsin Avenue.

Tyler says the shooters appear to have targeted a house in the 1600 block of Wisconsin Avenue, but not necessarily the victim.

There are no suspects at this time but police are looking for several people to talk to.

local-lame comment..This happens all over, certainly not just Beloit. How terribly sad for the family that lost a loved one due to (more then likely) punk violence.
.
Not punk violence, gang violence. All the people who laugh and scream wannabe when anyone mentions gangs better wake-up!
.
This is real, the gun was real, the gangs are real and that young lady is really dead.
.
So sad, so wrong and so not needed.

There isn't a good part of Beloit anymore, gangsters have guns and cars now. I've lived all over Beloit and every place I've lived has had violence within just a couple blocks - often within sight of where I've lived. The "hood" may seem the worst, but it hardly contains it.

I've lived in Janesville too and that's no protection. Cars that can drive across town are capable of making it the fifteen miles to get to Janesville.

Ok here we go again. A life was lost to some idiot kids. I was born & raised in Beloit. I have seen alot of good & alot of bad. There are good & bad spots in Beloit. Yes in that particular area there has been alot of work done to revitalize Beloit & actually looks very nice. But you get idiot kids anywhere. We have wanna be punk gang members here in Beloit as well as Janesville & surrounding areas. These kids think they have the "juice" & wanna prove they are manley & tough when they really are not worth the breath they are given when they act like this. And yes it is the under 21 group. My kids just left the high school in the last five yrs. & I have friends who still have kids in the high school. You wouldnt believe what the officers down there have to go through some times. They try to make it safe as possible. so yes this is a sad act of violence from 1 or more who do not want to be educated & think its good to carry a gun & sell drugs. Which by the way happens every where. Even in Janesville. So those who think it's just Beloit, WAKE UP!!!

Several local leaders, pastors and different church leaders from JOB (Justice Overcoming Borders) are ready to say, No More! Please, join us in prayer tonight, at 6:30 p.m. at the place of the shooting (1676 Wisconsin Avenue). This will be an ecumenical service, that is, representative of our church's diversity. We will have prayers, litanies, songs and words of support for our youth and our community. Bring your candles!

"Beloit really it's as bad as people think" dhammet, i assume you mean "isn't as bad" correct?
localboy, you are pathetic. Keep sitting on that pedestal and somebody will soon knock you off. Sounds like you are living in "LaLa" land.

I live in Beloit and the old saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind right now. Beloit really it's as bad as people think. The City has worked very hard to make it a safe place to live. Yes there are areas of town the you might want to stay out of, but that is the some of the people in those areas the cause the problems, there are people in those areas the work hard for a living and a small group of them do nothing and those are the people that are causing the problems. I hear more news like this coming out of Madison and the rest of the USA. So saying the "It's Beloit what do you expected" is a bad statement....People in glass house shoundn't throw stones. I am getting really tired of people make statements before they have all the facts. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the young girl that was killed and I hope that her killer or killers are brought to justice.

"It is Beloit, what do you expect? Roses and white ponies?"

That's insensitive as well as idiotic. Beloit and Janesville are less than 10 miles apart. If you think it's strictly a "Beloit" problem, you are sorely mistaken. As this recession continues to gut southern Wisconsin for jobs, Janesville will go the way of Beloit. A nice little town with no jobs. I've lived here long enough to know that "It's Beloit, what do you expect" is code for "That's where the black people live." Someone just lost a daughter to senseless violence, how about a little respect?

No it's the internet and we can be mean, rude and post anonymously.

idratherbeboating, where are you referring to, that neighborhood? If you are not referring to that neighborhood, does this make you feel unsafe where you are now? That has been a bad area for 40+ years.
