Former Wis. Dem. chairman tapped for state job
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The former chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has been named a top labor negotiator for Gov. Jim Doyle's administration.
Joe Wineke started his $95,000-per-year-job at the Office of State Employment Relations on Monday.
He will be administrator of the division of compensation and labor relations, which negotiates wages, benefits and working conditions with 19 labor unions that represent state employees. The division also oversees all compensation programs for state employees.
Wineke replaces James Pankratz, who is retiring later this year.
Wineke, 52, stepped down as party chairman in June after serving two two-year terms.

Wineke was chosen because of his background as a union executive. He is also a former Congressional candidate (beaten by Tammy Baldwin in the primary) and state legislator, which will be important because the legislature has final approval on all contracts. In effect, he has experience on both sides of the table.

It kind of reminds me of when Tommy Thompson bought off Tim Cullen, the leader of the Democratic Party at that time. Smart move on Thompson's part but a complete "sell-out" by Cullen. Money always wins over principle.

Anybody got a copy of his resume? From what little I know of his background this would appear to be another 'not what you know, it's who . . ."
