MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials are pumping more dollars into youth hunting.

The Department of Natural Resources has laid out a plan that includes about $35,000 to reimburse organizations that hold hunting education events for young people.

The agency also plans to put $8,000 toward starter kits for new turkey hunters. The kits will include a hunting DVD, a call and a decoy.

The Youth Outdoor Education Expo will get $5,000, too. The expo is scheduled to take place next spring in Wausau.

There always seems to be a legislative "scam angle" coming out of Madison lately.

I guess this is like Fondue Lacky paying Mercury Marine to stay and preserve jobs. This isn't about letting kids hunt earlier, it's about preserving the hunting and fishing industries. I'm not against letting kids hunt earlier though.
