UW regents take up jobs, swine flu and IT project
WHITEWATER, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin System regents will discuss economic development, an expensive new payroll program and the swine flu when they continue meeting Friday in Whitewater.
UW System President Kevin Reilly is expected to unveil recommendations from a task force he created to turn research on campuses into new, good-paying jobs.
The regents will be asked to give final approval for an $81 million payroll system despite concerns about the cost and questions surrounding the consultant.
The regents are also expected to suspend a rule that requires faculty and staff to get a doctor's note when they are sick for more than five days. Officials say the move should keep sick people home and ease the burden on doctors busy dealing with the swine flu.
