Levitt: Put new rink on ice
Janesville’s city manager recommends that the city spend about $1.3 million to improve the current ice arena rather than spend $2 million on a new one at this time.
Eric Levitt cited concerns about the economy and the proposed location of a new rink in a memo to council members. The council will discuss the issue at 7 p.m. Monday in City Hall.
The Janesville Youth Hockey Club Building Committee, a private group, has proposed raising money to build a phased, two-sheet ice arena for a total of about $5 million. The proposed site would be on 11 acres of city-owned land at the Youth Sports Complex.

Joker - Wrong on all three accounts and once again you prove how much of a complete idiot you are. Do you have any friends joker? You crack me up because as soon as someone calls you out on your false info and bullsh*^t, you resort to more assumptions. You have no idea who you're talking to, I can guarantee you that much.

Spark, let me guess. You are unemployed(due to all of your posts) and you have a son who plays hockey and used to skateboard?

Joker - Yes plenty of people use the rink. Haven't we gone over this a million times? Did you see how many people showed up at the first game? As far as the skatepark, the kids didn't quit skateboarding, they can't get any help from anyone to build it. They've tried to raise money and have busted their as*@s trying! Get your facts straight jack.

Does anyone even use this rink? Sounds like a money pit. Let private investors take it over. This story reminds me of the kids who whine and moan about needing a place to skateboard. They make all kinds of promises about pitching in to help pay for it and make it safe and clean. A year or two later, they stop being a skateboarder and the city is left with an eyesore.
Beloit is thinking of closing their pool next summer in order to save money. It is already losing money. Janesville should think the same.

They were always talking just over a million in long term investment to update the whole facility and keep it running for years to come. The 200k was updates and renovations to get the Jets here and as a small facelift.

Actually, the dollar amounts haven't changed. The 200,000 was just to get the place updated so it could run properly. The other articles always stated what it would cost to build new or to completely renovate the original.

I'm amazed at how quickly the scope of this project has increased. I vaguely remember figures around 200,000 dollars. Now they are talking in terms of millions. This is not a good ROI.

Ya, cause after all, Janesville is the only city in America lacking jobs. People crack me up.

Let's use the money to help create jobs in this wasteland of a city.

Sell it off -- if all these hockey boosters want to run it, let 'em. It's personal interests that continue to drive this project (I understand Levitt is a big hockey fan -- so what?).
$200k turns to $400K turns to $1.2m turns to $2.0m turns to $5.0 mil! Why don't you tell us that the rink doesn't need a pool, or a tunnel (right now) too. We bought that line of BS before -- same with the school upgrades in a reclining student population -- and now Marshall has its pool, Craig has all its additions, and the tunnel knot-heads keep chugging forward.
The reality of the loss of GM has barely even scratched the surface of this community yet. Wait till next year, when we won't be able to pay for basic services because of reduced tax revenue. We'll be selling the rink to City Ice for a token $1.00.
STOP SPENDING OUR MONEY LIKE IT ISN'T YOURS (because it isn't -- it's ours, and don't forget it!!!)

Get out of the ice rink, give it to the private group & take our losses.
