Fond du Lac council approves Merc incentives
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — The Fond du Lac City Council has joined the county in approving incentives to keep Mercury Marine and hundreds of jobs in town.
The council Thursday night agreed to borrow up to $3 million to buy about 21 acres of Mercury land. The city plans to sell the land as commercial property and offer the remainder of the funds to Mercury in forgivable loans, designed to retain jobs.
An agreement requires Mercury to keep its global headquarters and a substantial number of jobs in Fond du Lac. The company expects to employ as many as 1,400 by 2016.
