Trains, tax for Milwaukee?
MILWAUKEE — Gov. Jim Doyle wants to allow Milwaukee County to raise local property taxes half a percentage point to pay for local transit and a commuter rail line.
Doyle outlined his new proposal Tuesday.
His plan is designed to give the southeastern Wisconsin region an advantage in winning federal transit aid for the proposed $200 million Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee commuter rail line.
Under the plan, Racine and Kenosha counties could get state matching money to persuade them to join in the regional transit plan.
Doyle proposed a three-county regional transit authority in the state budget but vetoed the altered version lawmakers passed. He objected because it would have created single-county transit authorities for the region.

pitty they don't tax these idiot groups that reduced wisconsin's tax revenue by over 1.5 BILLION a year on tobacco taxes. then and only then, the rest of us wisconsin residents wouldn't have to pickup that lost revenue. so my challange is to the anti smokers, dig deep in your wallets first pay forward the 1.5 BILLION you cost the state in tobacco revenue. or please, shut the hell up and retract your stupid propoganda garabage till such time you can pay forward the moneys you cost the entire state of wisconsin. then maybe we'll have the extra to pay for choo choo train program doyle now wants.

I lean in favor of supporting high speed rail but the governor is both a political lightweight in regards to his handling the issue of commuter and long-distance rail and has shown himself to be completely tone deaf to the wishes of most constituents.

mrblack,
you are absolutely correct in mentioning the zoo interchange. i was going through it yesterday. semi-truck traffic is limited to 30 tons as 894 has begun to crumble. the city is bracing for huge traffic jams.
so, what does jimmy d do? build a train. yeah that train will certainly deliver the goods currently delivered by truck.
certainly

Meanwhile the zoo interchange is falling apart and Doyle wants to spend all this money on a choo choo train. That and why is there added tax, isn't transportation improvements supposed to come out of the transportation fund, you know where the money for vehicle registrations go, which that just went up too. This state is a joke and all you people that keep voting these democrats in deserve what you get.
