Unemployment hot line goes cold for some
MILWAUKEE — When unemployed Wisconsin residents call a hot line to check on claims for benefits, many of them get disconnected.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that callers were disconnected 86 percent of the time in August. That means they couldn't find out why unemployment checks haven’t been deposited in their bank accounts or get answers to other questions.
State Department of Workforce Development officias say the phone system drops calls so people don’t wait for too long on the phone. They say they’re trying to address the issue by adding staff, phone lines and server capacity that will allow them to handle more claims online.

Some people get caught in a loop when trying to get answers to their questions. I called the number jumping through all the hoops along the way when finally I got to the part that said to go to their website (notice correct spelling, Pete) and look for the answers to my question. Then it said if you can't (notice apostrophe instead of semi-colon, Pete) find the answer on the website, call back (and go through another 8 minutes of hoop jumping until you get to the part where we tell you to go to the website again and call back if you can't find the answers, and repeat). This is just WRONG.
. Also- I was told to do work searches. So I did them. Then I was told in a letter that I didn't have to do them. So I quit doing them. Then at the end of that week I got yet another letter saying I had to do them. Starting the very next week I resumed doing the work searches. Then they denied me my unemployment benefits for the week they told me I didn't have to do them. I am still trying to get that mess straightened out, but it doesn't look good.

Pete; You are right on. This unemployment system is overloaded. The Social Security Disability is also overloaded with 3 million people waiting for a decision. Imagine the nightmare of adding 50 million to the so called free health care.

Well, from the comments he made, Pete has never had to deal with a health insurance company.
Otherwise, he would know all about being on hold, long before "Obamacare" was even thought of.
No one knows what "Obamacare" will be, because the Senate cannot figure it out...or even understand the over 1,000 pages of the draft proposal.

Pete, you do realize that what you are calling "Obamacare" is not actually a single-payer insurance system, right? Or are you just hoping nobody else does?

Wisconsin, like other states have been through the drill before. Past issues with claims and a shortage of UC workers should have been resolved early on. This state is too reactive. Who are they trying to kid when they speak of adding more phone lines. With the technology the state already has, they have the ability to add numerous new phone lines at the flip of a switch. Quit coming up with excuses and start helping these people.
