On UW campuses, new misconduct rules are in effect
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin campuses have the power to discipline students for serious off-campus misconduct for the first time this semester.
New disciplinary rules went into effect Sept. 1 after sailing through a final review by the Legislature without any changes. The Board of Regents adopted them in June as part of the first rewrite of the student misconduct code since 1996.
The policy came in response to neighbors who want the universities to crack down on rowdy behavior among students. The rules will allow schools to seek discipline against students who commit repeated and serious municipal violations, such as sexual assault.
In the past, campuses could not regulate off-campus behavior.

Will the pre-law students fight extradition when the UW tries to punish them?
.
Can out-of-state students claim diplomatic immunity?
.
Will the wannabe colleges like MATC follow suit? Will students of the Madison Cosmetology College receive demerits for stumbling out of a State Street bar on Saturday night with unkempt hair?
.
I think they've opened a real can of worms with this new policy.
