‘No red flag’ was seen in Edgerton PTA theft

When Melanie Simmons took over as PTA president at Edgerton Community Elementary School last year, she was happy to have a veteran treasurer in Kim Kienitz, she said.

Kienitz, the group’s treasurer for four years, was the go-to person for questions, Simmons said. She always was willing to pitch in and help.

So Simmons hasn’t gotten over the shock of learning last week that police say Kienitz confessed to stealing more than $11,000 from the PTA account.

“There was no red flag really saying she was doing this,” Simmons said.

Now, the PTA is trying to figure out just how much money is missing and how it’s going to pay off a $10,500 vendor bill.

LOL..

Thanks athought for actually reading and thinking. (truthbtold sadly shakes her head).

You others should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to start trouble.

I think that what truthbtold was saying is that no one places blame on anyone OTHER than the woman that stole the money....

truthbtold, how can you say no one is placing blame??? She STOLE money from our Children and our Community! All the money that has been donated and fund raised for the PTA is not to pay someone's personal bills! And they are looking into the Middle School PTA funds also, as she had access to those! As a mother of an Edgerton student, I am very disgusted that someone in a position of trust has done this, and as a community member, I will not condone stealing and say "oh well". Get a Grip!

You really have done a great job Mel! Just look at the new circle and the billboard for the Comm school. Know one is placing blame,at least not those that count. We as a community I'm sure, will do whatever it takes.
