Stofflet, not Stossel

A Madison TV news anchor is having to explain — again — that he’s not longtime ABC news correspondent John Stossel.

John Stofflet, who anchors NBC-15’s 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, received e-mails and calls recently saying he was going to give a speech about health care reform.

Stofflet thought it was a bit odd, but he suspected what was up.

It turns out that Stossel spoke at an event in Middleton last week.

Stofflet says the name mix-up started back in the 1980s during his first job at Madison’s ABC affiliate. He says he needed to call ABC in New York at one point. He was switched to a network producer who said, "Stossel? What the hell are you doing in Wisconsin?"

Stofflet says the name mix-ups have continued since then.
