Beaver Dam middle school to try same-sex classes
BEAVER DAM, Wis. (AP) — A southeastern Wisconsin middle school is the latest to try single-gender classrooms.
Officials at Beaver Dam Middle School say they'll test the concept with 50 sixth-graders. The students will be taught core subjects in two same-sex classes, and will be in mixed classes for other subjects.
Principal Ben Jones says the goal is to strengthen test scores and improve academic achievement.
A handful of other schools in the state have experimented with same-sex classes.
Supporters say boys and girls learn differently, and they do better when they're surrounded with students who act and think as they do.
Opponents say schools should focus on proven teaching methods. They say teachers shouldn't be using kids' education as a social experiment.

I agree curtincall. It shouldn't matter who is around you, if you are there to learn, you will!

I do not believe being in a single sex classroom would have a effect on our kids. Either you are there to learn or you are not. I think as long as the teacher has control of the classroom, learning can be achieved.
