Danny Gokey in Stetson and boots?
MILWAUKEE — “American Idol” finalist Danny Gokey is going country.
19 Recordings/RCA Records Nashville announced Wednesday Gokey has signed a recording contract.
In a news release, the 29-year-old former church music director said the country songs he performed during last season’s “American Idol” helped him realize that country is where he belongs.
Gokey, originally from Milwaukee, is on the American Idols Live! Tour 2009. He performed in Milwaukee Aug. 28. He’s in Madison on Friday. The tour ends Sept. 15.
The recording company says Gokey will soon start work on his album, which will be released next year.
Gokey finished in the final three on the popular singing show.

Wesgonsin...I agree! I heard much of those artists you have mentioned when I was a child and they were somewhat still on the charts. You didn't mention so many of the other greats, but the list could go on and on. Unfortunately, to make it these days of piracy, you need to reach the other side of the charts as well. Maybe I should rephrase that. Maybe it IS fortunate, because there are many people who think that "country" twang makes their teeth hurt, when actually their ring tone on their cell phone playing their favorite song is actually number one on the country charts, as well. Case in point, Zac Brown's "Chicken Fried". It's the cat's meow to teens and adults. It's already been there on the country charts. Love to see people that think they don't like country actually sitting at a red light nearly blowing their speakers out to a song they can relate to, not knowing that it's a great country song that's been on the charts for nearly 2 years already. Gives me a secret smirk:)

I miss George Jones, Conway, Johney, Merle Hagard, Loretta and Willy. I cried the day Conway died. I miss the old Bopper. Crystal Gayle, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers.... That was Country music. That's what it meant.

"Judge their life by the height of the Steeple"... An interesting viewpoint, it took me aback. I've never thought of it in quite that way, but thanks. Seriously.

Why do they even call it "Country" music anymore? I still remember when Country music had its own special rhythm. Now it just all sounds like the same old bla...bla...bla, dime a dozen pop bands. How many years has it been since a true music legend was born? It's gotten as corny as if Michael Jackson had tried to do his own rendition of "Hello Darlin'"

That's too bad he is going country. I think he has an awesome voice. County music makes my teeth hurt so I won't be hearing him sing anytime soon.

I can't think of any genre period he would fit into.

Well, I have to say I'm surprised! I suppose I can't think of any other genre of music he'd fit into, though.
