Wis. DMV to close Friday for furloughs
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Division of Motor Vehicles will close again Friday for employee furloughs.
Gov. Jim Doyle has ordered all state workers to take 16 furlough days over the next two years to offset the state's financial woes.
DMV workers took Friday, Aug. 7, as their first furlough day. The division's automated phone system will remain operational to let motorists make road test appointments.
Titling and registration services offered by some police stations, grocery stores and financial institutions should also remain available. And customers can use the DMV's Web site for some services such as renewing their vehicle registration.

How about for those that Friday is the only day they can renew their DL or vehicle tags? Do they not get charged for the state's lack of being able to balance their checkbooks?

When any other business has to cut spending and reduce hours of employees, they spread the hours out over the year to avoid closing. When the state government does it, they close up for entire days, sticking it to any taxpayer who was planning their DMV trip that day. Don't fall for their strategy of justifying more tax increases. Demand they do more with less life everyone else.

I'm just wondering what happens to those who have waited 13 weeks to take their driving test, only to have the DMV closed.
