JANESVILLE—The Riverside Park gate, located midway along the park road, will be closed for the season at noon today.

This gate closure is in conjunction with park workers leaving that park for the winter months.

The gate will reopen in late March of 2010.

Direct questions to the city Parks Division at (608) 755-3025.

Yeah how are murderers going to drop the bodies off if the gate is closed?

When the gate is closed, the back is open for hiking and cross country skiing.

The park is barely used during the winter, and it costs a lot of money to keep it plowed. I don't see why there is the slightest objection to this longstanding practice.

I can understand closing off the hill due to problems with snow and ice. However, I've always thought it was a little excessive to cut off about half of the rest of the park too. How much can it cost to plow one path back there? The Friends have done a fantastic job improving the park and promoting it. Nonetheless the City of Parks still sees fit to close the back for 5 months.
