MADISON — Gov. Jim Doyle says the Legislature may not be able to get all its work done by the time session is scheduled to end next week and they may have to return in November.

Doyle says he hopes the Legislature can pass a bill next week that would give the mayor of Milwaukee the power to take over that city’s school district. But he admits the divisive measure may be one that has to wait for a special session.

Doyle says he hopes lawmakers can pass a series of other education reforms next week. The Legislature will be considering those around the same time President Barack Obama comes to Madison to talk about education. His visit is Wednesday.

The proposals are designed to put Wisconsin in a better position to capture federal stimulus money for education.
