BELOIT—A Beloit family received help from the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross after a residential attic fire minutes before 1 a.m. today, according to a press release from the Beloit Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found fire through the roof, in the attic of this single-family house, at 1607 Vine St. It was occupied by Max Thorpe and is owned by Dynel Thorpe and Norman Dresser. Max Thorpe got safely out of the house, the press release said.

The cause of the fire was determined as electrical. Most of the damage--$22,000--was contained to the attic, where firefighters said the fire started, and to the roof in front of the house, the release said.

The Red Cross helped find temporary housing until the home can be reoccupied, the release said.
