MADISON — A high-ranking official in the Wisconsin Justice Department has committed suicide.

According to an obituary in the Wisconsin State Journal, Craig Klyve, director of the agency’s Bureau of Investigative Services, took his own life on Friday. He was 52.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Weise, an assistant attorney general within the Justice Department, three daughters, two stepdaughters and two grandchildren.

Klyve began his law enforcement career with the state Department of Corrections. He transferred to the Justice Department in 1985. He became a director in the agency’s narcotics division before he moved into the Bureau of Investigative Services. He was a member of the National FBI Academy’s 99th class.

It is very tragic indeed. I'm submitting a link to the Wisconsin State Journal news article with more details.

I'm asking, because I don't know the answer here, but was he at all involved with any of that stuff when VanHollen took over? All the shifting of supervisors, etc., that resulted in a number of people leaving the agency even though they were long time employees?

Hard to believe that suicide would be listed in his obit.

Yes, even public officials can have an unfound, undiagnosed mental illness.

He's not associated with any scandal, so the reasons could easily be personal. The AP article is "according to an obituary", not any investigative article.
