Name of Rock County fatal released
ORFORDVILLE--The Rock County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the person killed in Sunday afternoon's crash.
Harris Speich, 72, Orfordville, died at University Hospital, Madison. He and his wife, 71-year-old Ilene Speich, were extricated from their 1997 Mercury Mountaineer before being transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Harris was later flown to UW-Hospital where he died, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
Ilene was listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital Monday morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The accident occurred at 1:42 p.m. at the four-way intersection of Highways 11 and 213 in the Village of Orfordville.
A 1997 International tandem axel truck driven by Kevin Campbell, 27, of Washington, Pa. was traveling east on Highway 11 and approaching Highway 213 when it hit the driver’s side of Speich’s Mountaineer. Campbell and his passenger, 31-year-old James Opic of Wheeling W. Va., were not hurt, the release said.
Campbell was issued a traffic citation for failing to stop, according to Sgt. Kerry
The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting in the investigation of the crash. Speed and inattentive driving may have contributed, the release said.

How embarassing. Hannah respectfully tried to get the Gazette to correct an error in their headline and the silly people went off the hook. Some of you look petty and ignorant in this comment thread. You should be ashamed of your behavior.
My condolences go out to both families for their loss and distress. My despair goes out for Rock County if this is the best we have to offer.

Hannah, below it reads:

How very, very sad no matter whose "fault" it was. I'm sure the other driver feels absolutely terrible no matter how the accident played out. The blink of an eye can change lives forever.

to repeat the words of one blogger on here, if you dont like my typing mistakes then dont read the blog, shouldnt you also hold this true for the story then? some of the ones complaining are some of the worst speller/typers on here and dont like it when their mistakes are pointed out. so forget about the title, and a typo and FOCUS ON THE STORY , a family has lost a love one, one that will be missing from their family table forever. why cant you people for once just be sympathic and then shut up

At least someone agrees with me! I see that I made a type in my post...so will I be the next person to be picked on because I can't type?
Again, to the Speich's I am very sorry to hear about the loss.

I agree IrishEyes~all the posts pertaining to grammar should be removed. Show some respect and if you have an issues do what the 'rules' say 'Help us get it right. If you spot a factual error or misspelling, email newsroom@gazettextra.com or call 1-800-362-6712'.

I know what my comment will say will start some type of discussion, but my god some of you people need to seriously get a life! The Speich family has lost someone due to an accident. It is very sad. Instead of complaining about the way that people don't show proper grammar or typing things that don't pertain to this article, seriously get a life. If they Gazette were smart, they would consider getting rid of posts on certain articles. To the Speich family, I am very to sorry to hear about your loss.

Facebook09, this blog is exactly the forum by which Hannah should be pointing out mistakes my by the Gazette Staff. People do read these forum posts and when people point out where the Gazette can improve, both the Gazette and its readers benefit. If one is to simply send them an email it has no real weight behind it because it is just a single view seen only by single email recipient who then can easily dismiss it (if they read at all) ... but when it becomes the main theme of the blog/forum section by those of us posting to it, then the staff at the Gazette is more likely to take it a bit more serious simply because there are significantly more who read the artcle and the blogs/posts but don't actually post to blog/forum.

Hannah, YOUR OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!!
What good do you think correcting a title of an artical will do for anyone? If the grieving family members read your blog to this story, they would be appalled. The fact that you can start a fight over any little thing is just pathetic. You need to get a life! Do you seriously sit at home all day monitoring your blogs on this website and thinking your making a difference to anyone who reads them? A man is dead, no one cares that the headline reads "Name of Rock County Fatal Relesed" Its time to grow up!

Yes, the rumble strips are still there. I find it very hard to believe that someone can ignore those if they are just driving 'inattentively'.

attack/ fight with/ arguee whatever If it was me Id email the gazette and tell them how I felt not post it on the blog that was all I was saying. I dotn think if its astory about a death that it should be used as a place to argue wording.

Oh boy....because Im the only one who disagreed with her ever????
Like I said if that is how they keep posting the headline maybe thats how is is supposed to be. There are many things that dont "sound right" but infact are.
I just think that if it were my family member Id rather not read about how someone is tired of seeing this.
But thats fine keep the attacks coming....

Aww lighten up Facebooker. You're going ballistic over a grammar comment? And besides, if Hannah really wanted to get into it over poor grammar and spelling, she'd point out the 10+ errors in your two posts, but she didn't.
There's nothing wrong with expecting proper spelling and grammar from professional journalists, and her opinion in no way diminishes the compassion felt for people who have lost a loved one. It isn't an either/or situation.

Ok so tell that to the mans wife, brother or daughter.
People can post whatever they want but i cant post when I am unhappy with a comment. I feel so bad for this family. After loosing and almost loosing family members I know how it feels. I would not want to hear about someone complaining about how the headline was worded. It makes me sick to think that a family member would see her complainging about it. If you have a problem write to the Gazette and tell them.

Hannah - what is wrong with you?!?! Seriously, a mad died. Someones father, brother, husband, friend....
I dont think I would care much how the paper worded it if it were a loved one of mine. Its not like all of your posts are perfect. If they continue to post it like this then Im guessing they know something about grammer that you do not. Leave it alone - this family is trying to mourn this man.
My thought and prayers go out to all the people who have had their life touched by this man!

cynicaleye- I completely agree....its absolutely shameful what is "excused" when it comes to motor vehicle-related incidents.
.
The great potential for disaster when operating a motor vehicle should require the utmost diligence at all times and there should be drastic consequences otherwise, but almost no one in authority seems to think so.
