BRADFORD TOWNSHIP--A Chicago-area man died on impact when his car struck a tree at 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 14 and Kemp Road in Bradford Township.

The 45-year-old man could have been driving inattentively, said Sgt. David Vierck from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

While emergency responders cleared that scene, a second crash took place at 2:31 p.m.

According to Vierck:

Jamie R. Newcomb, 40, of Footville, braked while driving east past the scene of the fatal crash.

A school bus driven by Melvin Nordmeyer, 70, of Walworth, crashed into the back of Newcomb’s truck.

The truck was forced across the center line and spun into a car being driven west by Derrek Stanton, 37, of Janesville.

Newcomb was admitted at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, for serious injuries. His 16-year-old passenger was treated and released.

No one on the bus was injured.

Stanton and his wife were uninjured, but their 2-year-old child was treated and released at Mercy Hospital, Janesville.

Rooster... you should change your name to Ostrich. Get your head out of the sand! My father in law happens to be 70. You would never guess it with him or any of his friends. They all look and act like they are 50 years old. In case you haven't noticed 70, 80 & 90 year old people aren't what they were back in the day. Most of them are very healthy and spry now a days. It's too bad he is still working and not off somewhere enjoying retirement. Not many can these days with our economy. I'm glad he is OK physically, I'm sure he is shaken up by what happened.

Whats wrong with a 70 yr old driving a bus? Probably a lot safer than a 20 something driving a bus.
