Specialty growers to share in $750,000 grant
MADISON (AP) — Specialty growers in Wisconsin will share a $750,000 grant with the state agriculture department to make the crops more competitive.
In a news release Friday, that state says those crops include fruits, vegetables, tree nuts and nursery crops, including flowers.
The grants from the U.S. Agriculture Department are intended to help state residents eat better, make crop distribution more efficient and enhance food safety, among other things.
Some example of the projects funded by the grants:
— $35,000 to teach winemakers and consumers about popular Wisconsin grapes.
— $33,000 to commercialize bush hazelnuts and expand the industry.
— $45,000 for an advertising campaign on behalf of Wisconsin-grown potatoes.
