PGA Tour over for Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The PGA Tour has ended its run in Milwaukee after 42 years.
Without a title sponsor, the Milwaukee Golf Charities board of directors has voted to dissolve the organization that ran the U.S. Bank Championship and its predecessor, the Greater Milwaukee Open.
Tournament director Dan Croak says the organization donated $520,000 to charity this year and will fold with no debt in place.
As title sponsor, U.S. Bank spent about $1.4 million a year since 2004 and declined to pick up the three-year option beginning in 2010.
Attendance and corporate support dwindled after the PGA Tour moved the U.S. Bank Championship to the same week as the British Open in 2007.
