Marinette man claims Powerball prize

MILWAUKEE — A Powerball player in northeastern Wisconsin has won $31.4 million, the state’s sixth-largest jackpot since the game began almost 20 years ago, lottery officials said Thursday.

Doug Miron of Marinette is declining all media requests for interviews until a news conference Monday, lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage said in a statement.

Miron was so happy when he found out he won Wednesday’s drawing that he jumped for joy—and injured his leg, Bohage said.

"But if you’re going to pull a muscle, winning a multi-million-dollar jackpot is not a bad way to go," he said.

Miron chose to take his jackpot in a lump sum. That works out to $16.7 million, or $11.2 million after taxes.

City Limits, the Marinette convenience store where the ticket was sold, earns a $100,000 commission.

The winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing were 5, 15, 25, 30 and 40. The Powerball was 6 and the Power Play multiplier was 2.

I guessed (correctly) that no one would answer my question "For those of you that aspire to win, how do you feel about the 'soak the rich' mentality, since you would then be 'rich' (if you're not already)?" What a surprise.

Anyone else notice the lie that "A Powerball player in northeastern Wisconsin has won $31.4 million". But it's really only $16.7 million, or $11.2 million after taxes. Wow that number goes down fast when the gubmint steps in to take "their" share! For those of you that aspire to win, how do you feel about the "soak the rich" mentality, since you would then be "rich" (if you're not already)?

I hope this guy knows what he is doing. The smart ones get their ducks in a row before going public. He could have established a company, and had his attorney claim the prize on behalf of the company. This poor guy (no pun) will have his life change and probably not for the better. I wish him well.
