Wisconsin math scores hold steady
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin's fourth- and eighth-graders continue to score above the national average on a national mathematics test.
A report released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Education shows that scores in Wisconsin for fourth graders were unchanged from 2007, the last time the National Assessment of Educational Progress math test was given. Eighth grade scores were up two points, but statistically unchanged.
Fourth graders scored 244, which was above the national average of 239. Eighth graders scored 288, six points above the average.
African-American and Hispanic students continued to lag behind the state average.
State Superintendent Tony Evers says more needs to be done to raise those scores, which have been gradually improving over the past 13 years.
