Wis. man reaches plea deal on solicitation charges
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — An Appleton man accused of soliciting sex from young girls online has reached a plea deal.
Twenty-six-year-old Ryan A. Clewell pleaded no contest this week to seven counts of soliciting a child for prostitution.
The charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 175 years. In exchange for the plea, Winnebago County prosecutors will recommend four to six years.
The criminal complaint says Clewell used a fake identity on MySpace to contact six Neenah girls between the ages of 12 and 15. Prosecutors say he offered them $150 to $600 to perform sex acts.
Defense attorney Len Kachinsky says his client's actions are an "unfortunate consequence" of his post-traumatic stress disorder following two tours in Iraq.
Clewell will be sentenced Dec. 10.

My final word on this is: He brings shame to every Vet that has gone to Iraq or anywhere else in the world. Using PTSS as an excuse to try and lure young girls is nothing more than a lame excuse in my opinion. This guy is sick alright, but I doubt it has anything to do with his role in Iraq or anywhere else. For everyone who commented, ask yourself how you would feel if it had been your daughter he tried to lure!

Superdave-I simply meant he no doubt preyed on little girls while in Irag. He doesn't need a computer for that.
Coyote-I guess I gave the Iraqis too much credit.
truth1-He didn't actually touch anyone cause he didn't get the chance. Do you think he isn't going to go right back out and try again!?!?

caution brwe. your ignorance is showing. i never said ANYTHING about legal marijuana. i SPECIFICALLY said in my post that 'PTSD for this guy is nothing more than a convenient excuse', but i understand how the blindness works so ill forgive. PTSD CAN be treated with marijuana. its been approved in other states, which means DOCTORS have verified its effectiveness. if you'd like to debate the medical aspect its ok. could you please start by telling me where you went to medical school, and why you think a natural medicine, PROVEN TO BE EFFECTIVE, wouldnt help this guy if he truly has PTSD?? thank you for your time dr.

Segold-- I think a sense of shame is a disqualifier for admittance to the bar! And according to "thekid", all this guy really needs is some legal marijuana to set him straight?

I'm sure this worthless guy will be out in about 2 years and betting he had no money to pay those girls in the first place and they could have ended up dead. His attorney tries to use the "post-traumatic" case? just another way to get him out of trouble, hard telling what this sick guy would have done if he would have found a girl that said yes, give him the 175 years.

I have a son who is in his 2nd tour in Iraq and has seen lots of terrible things. Uhhh, I don't see him propositioning under age girls due to it. What a crock of a defense!!!!! The lawyer should be ashamed to even go to trial with that lame excuse!

the jacki rickert medical marijuana act is a bill that was recently introduced by rep mark pocan(d) madison an co-sponsored by jim erpenback(d) middleton. it mirrors michigans law that passed last year, with 2/3s of the vote, and it includes more ailments that are not in michigans bill including PTSD. my guess is that PTSD for this guy is nothing more than a convenient excuse, but if he DOES suffer...marijuana could help. contact your reps and let them know you support a dr's right to prescibe a medicine. fill out the info here and an email will automatically be sent to your reps!! support medical marijuana BEFORE you NEED medical marijuana.

SuperDave; he created the account upon return from Iraq and is blaming his tour as the cause of his current state of mind. My st5atement was in response to davvic stating that had he done this while on tour the Iraqies wouldn't have bothered with anything, as women/children are possesions, not people.

It's too bad he didn't get caught when he was in Iraq and I have no doubt he was doing the same thing there. Irag wouldn't have given him any plea bargain. They wouldn't have even let him live.

It's unlikely he would have been sentenced to anywhere near the full 175 years, even if he had gone on trial and a jury had convicted him. From the other articles on this it does not appear that any of the sex acts took place.

What a huge drop from 175yrs. A slap on the wrist in this case, and of course lets blame it on the war. It would have happened sooner had he not been serving two tours in Iraq
