Gas leak closes Milton Middle School today
MILTON—A natural gas leak has closed Milton Middle School today.
An odor near the school was discovered around 4 a.m. Wednesday by Milton Police Department detective Ryan Justice.
“I smelled the odor, investigated for a while, determined it was not going away so called the Milton Fire Department,’’ he said.
After firefighters located the odor, on the terrace in front of the school at 20 E. Madison Ave., they called Alliant Energy, whose gas crew remains on scene.
Milton School District Superintendent Bernie Nickolay made the decision to close the school by 6 a.m., Justice said.

Actually, I turned around in their driveway last night at about 5:15 and smelled it then. Oops - should've called MPD then. However, there were other vehicles there at that time too.
