Greyhound adoption groups plan for track closing
KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — Greyhound adoption groups are preparing to place hundreds of dogs from the Dairyland race track, even though the final decision on closing the state's only dog track has not been made.
Linda Cliff of Central Illinois Greyhound Adoption says she hasn't talked to anyone who thinks the track will stay open.
Dairyland managers sent a letter to employees last week saying a decision on the track's future will be made no later than Nov. 16. Attendance at the track is down 19 percent compared with last year. Wagering is down 29 percent.
Cliff Swenson of Midwest Greyhound Adoption says if the track closes, hundreds of dogs will need to be adopted quickly. Of 900 dogs at Dairyland, Swenson says between 300 and 600 dogs are expected to be available for adoption with the rest going to other tracks around the country.

It's too bad some people lost their jobs and their investments, but these animals will be going to good homes instead of having to work. I know someone in the greyhound rescue network and they're going to have to scramble to find enough homes for all these dogs.

I don't mind seeing some "businesses" close, like cocaine, heroin, and crack dealers....and other "businesses" like puppy mills and other similar things that cause pet overpopulation and cost the U.S. taxpayer well over 2 Billion dollars a year to kill and dispose of millions of nice dogs that have no other problem other than being homeless.

I hate to see any business close. Kundos to Ms. Cliff for being prepared. These dogs are beautiful animals and deserve good homes.
