Source: Hoffman, Brewers agree to deal
MILWAUKEE (AP) — All-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman agreed Monday to a one-year, $8 million contract to return to the Milwaukee Brewers next season.
A person with direct knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that it includes a mutual option for 2011 that could be worth up to an additional $8.5 million. The person requested anonymity because the contract had not been formally announced.
That announcement will be made Wednesday. ESPN.com previously reported an agreement had been reached. Foxsports.com reported the contract terms.
The 41-year-old Hoffman converted 37 of 41 save opportunities with a 1.83 ERA. Hoffman will turn 42 next week, but said often during the season that he wanted to return to Milwaukee because he liked his young teammates’ positive attitudes in the clubhouse.
He also said he liked his new role, no longer having to be the face of the franchise like he was for most of his 16 seasons in San Diego.
“I wanted to be a piece of the puzzle, another cog in the wheel, all those cliches,” Hoffman told The Associated Press earlier this season. “They have a lot of young guys that are that face and that wasn’t going to be any of my responsibility.”

Did we even have a quality starter this year?? NO.. We had personnel that was placed in a starting roll, that (on average) only could pitched 4-5 innings, none of which could make past the "Dreaded" 7th inning.. I think they made a mistake in not offering a contract to Chris Bosio, He was thrown to the wolves , with a sub par (and I am being generous in say that) Pitching staff.. When He (Bosio) came to Milwaukee, his staff had ( I guesstimating) pitching staff (Starting staff) with a combined ERA of +7, by the end of the year the staff ( they learned to pitch inside, throw the 2-2 change up, and were not afraid to give up a walk for a double play).. and their ERA combined was close to 5 1/2.. that tells me something, but not to renew his contract??? 3rd in the division (if lucky)next year..
They need to trade off Doug Melvin.. for a pitching staff.. Yeah,,, we will get alot for him...

hells bells indeed. i agree w JCK. one or both of those starters will probably come via a prince fielder package. hate to say it after the year he had...but hes only here til free agent time anyways. too bad they cant package coach macha with him but that would devalue the package:)

This is a good thing but if they don't get at least two quality starting pitchers it isn't going to make any difference.
