BELOIT TOWNSHIP--An arrest has been made in conjunction with a Sunday morning fire that destroyed a barn on South Paddock Road, according to a Town of Beloit Police Department press release.

The juvenile male was arrested on charges of negligent handling of burning materials, the release said.

The investigation reveals the juvenile entered the barn and lit a cigarette in the hayloft that ignited the hay, causing the barn to burn to the ground, the release said.

The Town of Beloit Fire Department was assisted in fighting the fire, for more than eight hours, by units from multiple agencies in surrounding communities.
