MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin officials are awaiting the International Olympic Committee's decision Friday whether to award the 2016 games to Chicago or one of three other finalist cities.

If the Windy City is picked, Wisconsin will reap several benefits and will host Olympic cycling events near Madison. The state's capital will become the Games' cycling hub, hosting three events, and the University of Wisconsin's Madison campus will house about 320 athletes.

Milwaukee and other parts of southeast Wisconsin stand to gain additional tourism revenue as people flock to the area for the Olympics.

Chicago is competing with Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Games.

HAHAHA Obama and especially Michelle's embarrassing speech threw them out right away! Chicago was the first to get booted! Other countries are not impressed by the Obama's arrogance and Oprah's racism. They see through them and what's really bad, is we're stuck with them and their stupidity. We are the laughing stock of the country.

Is this why the city of Janesville is painting bike lanes on all the streets? I thought Lance Armstrong did all his training on the sidewalks. Oh that's only the lame Janesville wannabes, Right?

Doesn't matter now, it's not coming. Chicago got the least amount of votes.

thepeckingorder...Stop trying to make this a political issue. Our economy, especially in the midwest, stands to see a large increase in jobs over the next 7 years and even after 2016. And, the economy stands to gain from all the travelers from all over the world staying in our hotels, eating at our restaurants, and shopping at our malls. Chicago already has many of the venues needed in place, so the cost will be minimal compared to what Beijing had to spend. They had to basically build everything needed to house the games. And, it's never a bad thing to bring nations together in one of the greatest spectacles of athletic competition and sportsmanship. In no way is this a bad thing. And, the important things your referring to, such as jobs and the economy maybe (I'm just guessing at what's going on in your head), will be helped by the Olympics coming to Chicago.

thepeckingorder, 2012 is already selected (London). The selection for 2016 is today. Yes, seven years in advance.
.
It's a close race; all four cities are considered to have about the same chance of winning the games. If Chicago does win, I can't imagine a better place for the bike events than the Madison area.

As long as Illinois, and not Wisconsin, gets stuck with the inevitable cost-overrun debt that accompanies hosting the Olympics, it might help pull our state out of the economic depression we seem to be sliding into.

Chicago will NOT be the host.

The city is full of crooks.

Obama should worry about more important stuff than this crap.

Anyone can pratice a sport since the age of 8 and be awesome.

Olympic cycling in Madison and the surrounding area would be GREAT!
