KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — The deadline is looming to become the World Champion Liar.

Burlington Liars’ Club president Joel Weis told the Kenosha News that people are taking life too seriously because they’ve received less than 50 entries so far.

The deadline to enter the club’s 80th annual World Champion Lie contest is Dec. 15. There is no age limit in the international contest, which typically draws about 300 entries.

Last year’s winning lie was submitted by Gareth Seehawer of Oconto Falls. He said his “grandson is the most persuasive liar” he has ever met. Seehawer said “by the time (the boy) was 2 years old he could dirty his diaper and make his mother believe someone else had done it.”

This version of the story omits the last line from the AP wire version, which read: "No, actually, the competition closed last night. Suckers."

Glad to see you are not trashing Ted, by the way. He's an interesting writer. I didn't mean to create a confusion between the two, and they are not related.

I was just making a funny against Ted.

He's a Sunday writer for the Sports section of the gazette. He writes like he still lives here, but he's lived in Iowa for years. He's not very well liked among local outdoor enthusiasts, but the gazette hasn't figured that out yet, for some reason. Maybe they are out of touch with the true outdoor sports lovers of the area.

Who's Ted Peck? I wasn't trashing Greg Peck. He was involved in a Liar's competition last year. He won or was a runner-up. Not sure. Maybe he can let us know.

My mother once told me, I was such a good baby that I soiled only one diaper and upon seeing what I had done, I changed it myself.

I would have thought Jim Doyle wrapped that contest up a long time ago.
