From the WCLO newsroom:

Beloit Police are investigating the city's third shooting this week.

Captain Bill Tyler says paramedics treated a 32-year-old gunshot victim at a home on Euclid Avenue on Wednesday and transported him to an area hospital for treatment. The victim is in the intensive care unit where investigators are waiting to speak with him once his condition improves. Tyler says preliminary investigation indicates there was an earlier altercation between the victim and armed suspects at the home. A short while later, the victim was shot outside. After he was shot, he returned to the house and collapsed, and people at the residence called 911.

A search warrant was subsequently served at the residence by members of the drug and gang unit. Details on the warrant are not currently available.

At about 6pm Thursday, police responded to a shots-fired call on Moore Street and found that a house had been shot at several times and at least one person had been hit. Paramedics treated the 24 year old victim and transported him to an area hospital. Several people, including a young child, were in the home at the time of the shooting. Tyler says the incident was gang-related.

These incidents follow a fatal shooting Tuesday near Merrill Elementary School.

Police say that suspect is still at large.

When the murder suspect is caught, he'll take a plea and be out of prison when he's old. Unfortunately I think the attitude will still be there. But fortunately like all the other idiots, he'll mess up his probation and come out of prison even older.

One of the latest shooting victims is actually a guy who was just released from prison but has lived most of his life in Clinton. From the looks of his court records (convictions for dealing marijuana), he seems to be back at his old trade. Well, this time it got him shot.

I have lived in Beloit my entire life and I work in Janesville. Yes Beloit, has had (3) shootings in one week. A paroled criminal is at large and the other shootings appear to be drug related or gang related. Janesville is hardly a pure community. Janesville had (3) family members killed "the Lentz's" and their killer has yet to be convicted, Michael Huber has raped victims in Janesville from 1998 to present before being arrested, and Erica Ostenson was killed by her boyfriend, yes in Janesville. Let's quit comparing notes and STEP UP as COMMUNITIES! HAVE YOU WITNESSED A CRIME AND NOT REPORTED IT? HAVE YOU ATTENDED A CITY COUNCIL MEETING TO VOICE YOUR CONCERNS FOR THE COMMUNITY YOU MAY BE RAISING YOUR CHILDREN IN? STEP UP instead of pointing fingers. It is unfortunate that both of our cities have to suffer at the hands of these criminals who are selfish, who have no integrity and no respect for themselves or the precious lives of others. It BREAKS MY HEART and I will continue to STEP UP and let my VOICE be heard at our meetings and help neighbors in crisis and pray to GOD above that we can find peace.....WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???

You may not get murdered in JVL right now but you stand a good chance of getting robbed or your property ripped off. How many of those robberies have the glorious detectives of the JPD solved? Zero?

As far as taking a stand, will it do any good? As soon as one of these losers is arrested or killed another comes up from rockford or chicago and takes his place. I agree something needs to change but what will bring forth that change?

Some people need to look past Janesville and Beloit and stop comparing them! The only people that are REALLY to blame is the so-called peace officers and detectives that say that they are actively looking for these suspects. How many murders in the past couple of years have gone unsolved in the township as well as the city? If someone has THAT # please let me know! I want to express that the police are not just looking at simple murders, but ones that were so heinous and violent! And I couldn't even imagine that the people of Beloit could feel safe knowing that these killers are still out on the street! I don't feel safe in Janesville knowing that Beloit is only 10 minutes away and this is happening! They could even reside here and just hang out there! Who is to say! The people of Beloit need to take a stand and let the City Government know that they will NOT STAND for these crimes to go unsolved anymore! They are either not doing their job correctly, or the killers have watched too much A&E (television shoe on cable) and can get away with murder! And stop all that talk about minorities and poverty cause there are plenty impoverished people right here in Janesville, but they aren't murdering each other either! That don't even make sense!

Is that a typo in the "popular discussions" column? It says "Janesville residents arrested on heroin, cocaine charges". I cant believe that, not with the way people on here say how great JVL is. Has to be a typo.

I live in Janesville and laugh so hard when JVL residents talk so bad about Beloit. Yes, its really bad, we know that. But compare Janesville to the other comparably populated cities in WI and youll find that Janesvilles crime rate is worse than those cities. Janesville may not be as bad as Beloit as far as murders and shootings but it is NOT a low crime city. These fools in Beloit seem to target their enemies, not like the idiots blindly shooting nearly 50 rounds out of their house windows and hitting the houses of strangers. Both cities have serious issues, wish the blind folks here in JVL would admit that.

When are the Beloit police and city fathers going to take their town back from the gangs, and drug lords. DRASTIC action is needed. Double the police force to patrol these areas and the entire city. The people of Beloit would pay for a safer city.Lock the city down and keep these people out

representinbtownyo: I agree with you. If the Janesville folks wants statistics that really represent something, here they are: My family has lived in Beloit for more than 150 years. No one in the family has ever been a victim of violent crime: None of us were ever murdered, shot, stabbed, beat up, spit on, etc. We have never even been victims of property crime, unless you count the one time a kid took my unlocked bike one day from my grade school (which was located in the area that Janesville insults the most). Oh, yeah, the cops located and returned the bike after two or three days.

Most of my childhood, we never even locked our doors at night. Of course, those days are long gone from just about everywhere in this country.

Now, the other side of the statistic coin: No one in my family has ever killed, shot, stabbed, beat up or spit on anyone. We have never committed any property crimes (even TPing is not popular in Beloit). The statistic pertaining to the families of my friends, fellow church members and work associates mirror those I described above. Are we typical Beloiters? Darn right, we are!

Most of those involved in these shootings are not long-time Beloit residents (and might not even live in the community now). Unless they straighten out their act and settle down (and, yes, some of them do accomplish this), most of them move on a regular basis, often to another community. The trend is to move northward for a lot of them. From Chicago, to Rockford, to Beloit, to ... OMG! ... Janesville?! Maybe so.

OK, Beloit, now do you believe me? Beloit has more VIOLENT crime and SHOOTINGS than Janesville. Now, please get your heads out of the sand and stop ignoring it. And by the way, I do not live in Janesville either, so I am an out of town, objective person who has written multiple term papers in college regarding the VIOLENT crime in Beloit. And the statistics I used were based on research and nothing else.

Shouldn't be a grudge match about which town is better, we should all try and help everyone. Sometimes we forget we are America as a whole, we shouldn't treat neighbors like foreigners. What is good for Janesville(as far as crime goes) is good for Beloit, and vice versa. Quit with the finger pointing and chest puffing, let's try and work together.

I wish that when things like this are in the news we could actually be given details as to what the motivations are behind what the newspapers always seem inclined to portray as wanton acts of violence. I hate to say this but, a great deal of the majority of the people who find themselves the victims of these shootings are not as innocent as it sometimes seems like the stories try to make them appear. Beloit is not Chicago. Beloit is not Detroit, Baltimore, or even Cinncinati. THOSE cities have very large areas of the city where even THE POLICE are afraid to go. When these types of shootings happen in the our own relatively rural part of the country, of course they make headline news. All I'm saying is for the most part, Beloit is actually a quiet town, as long as you mind your own business and do not associate with the types of people that think this type of thing is acceptable.

For all you snobby Janesvillians, you don't seem to see that your town is headed down a much worse course. Remember Beloit still has one of the best liberal arts colleges in the U.S.A. and a lovely river corridor that can be enjoyed by all. We also have a revived downtown. What Beloit doesn't have is all the stranger on stranger crime that Janesville has - ours is isolated and so much so that I wasn't aware of the murder the other day, and I work 6 blocks from the incident. We can boast of ABC Inc. headquarters, Kerry Ingredients, and Frito Lay and other great companies. How's that GM company doing up there? And all their suppliers? You'll understand my initial comments in about 5 yrs.

Statistically and taking population into account,Beloit has more crime.People can debate the why of it or stick up for Beloit all day long, but it's true. And these shootings won't help the towns image or the stats.

Napalm - I was almost ostracized from this site when I made the comment that Beloit is the armpit of Rock County and listed why you would choose Janesville over Beloit to live in. All you have to do it read the Beloit Daily Snooze to get a feel for the place. The Gazette doesn't even report everything bad that goes on down there. After the Gazette's increase of Beloit coverage - I rest my case.
