Sheriff: Wis. hunter shot house

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Deputies have arrested a deer hunter after he allegedly shot into a house.

Dane County Sheriff officials say a couple and their adult son were in their town of Burke home on Tuesday afternoon when they heard what sounded like an explosion in the kitchen. They found a hole in the wall and a shotgun slug on the floor. No one was injured.

The homeowner noticed two hunters in a field outside his home. One of them, a 46-year-old Windsor man, said he had shot at a deer and lost his footing, possibly sending a round into the home. The hunter said he was about 1,000 yards from the home when he took the shot.

The sheriff's office says deputies discovered the hunter was under the influence of alcohol.

Huntingstinks - I could care less if you lost my respect for the comparison. You showed you had no respect for me because I hunt to begin with. I have a ton of respect for anyone that serves this country. I don't have respect for someone that uses it to try and one up someone in an article that's about hunting. Or someone that uses it to try and back pedal rather than admitting they were wrong for previous comments. Why not let the wife purchase the meat? Are you that ignorant? How do you think the cow died? Clueless.

Just say he is right so he will shut up. He knows all of us, and is always right. I have accepted this and see that I am a no good barbarian just like he said, guilty.
I am going to lose sleep tonight knowing that I have lost all his respect, that he never had for me to begin with. Boo hoo. I don't respect those who pass judgment on people they have never meet and call them names, I have looked at all your past posts, they are all aimed at hunters and you call them names in almost all of them, so to say you were just kidding when you called us that is a lie, it's normal behavior for you. You must be fun to hang out with. you are a bigot and I will not take up anymore of my time defending myself to the likes of you, good day, and maybe you should change your screen name to Archie Bunker, it fits you much better.

Spark, the same thing applies to you as to Glock; I guess I'll have to repeat myself. What am I to think when you say, "I guarantee you, you wouldn't call people morons outside of your computer screen if it was face to face." The suggestion of violence in a "face to face" confrontation is apparent, and it has nothing to do with "just because [you] hunt," as you said. Capiche?
-
And, Spark, you have completely lost any respect I might have had for you by comparing my experience in Vietnam to your barbaric practice. It's apparent you have some growing up to do. No offense intended.
-
And you say you more often take doe for the purpose of eating. Nice. So you're saying you go out, perhaps to be away from your family during the Thanksgiving holiday, to fetch a meal for your family? Just like in the Stone Age, is that it? If there's no sport in it, or no environmental angle, why not just let the wife purchase the meat at the supermarket? It would be a lot less hassle. But no, it's not a hassle, is it? It's what you want to do, go out and kill these animals. That's all part of the experience. So don't try to separate the kill from the eating, or try to justify the kill because you want meat to eat. It's all a rationalization, Spark, to kill living beings.

huntingstinks - You said you remember me? You don't know me and obviously don't read posts well. I eat everything I hunt and have taken more doe than trophy deer in my lifetime. That's not sport hunting so stop classifying everyone that hunts as a sport hunter. It's ignorant and what every animal rights activist does.
-
I also don't appreciate you calling me violent just because I hunt. One could say the same thing about you being in a war, but I would never show that must disrespect for anyone because I'm not that type of person. I think it's pretty petty that you bring that into a conversation that you began by insulting hunters.

Huntingstinks, you are so blinded by your hate of all things that you do not agree with that trying to convince you that I am not violent or a barbarian would be an exercise in futility. I have better things to do with my time. I thank you for you service to our country. Happy Holidays, I would say Merry Christmas, but I might offend someone out there.

Glock, you call me a coward. Perhaps. I was a combat Marine in Vietnam, '68/'69, but I still may be a coward, now, in my old age. If so, I'm comfortable in my cowardice. I just want to live to a ripe old age, like most people. But, you challenge my assertion that you may be violent. You find it an insult, it appears. What am I to think when you threaten with words like, "I bet if your were not able to hide behind that computer screen you would not be so quick to open your mouth and spew your hate at other people, you coward."? And I am "offensive and bigoted." If you find me offensive for expressing my opinion, that's your problem. If you find me bigoted, hold on. A bigoted person is prejudiced, someone who holds strong opinions in ignorance. I am not that, my friend, I am not ignorant. I admit I always have new things to learn, but, of many things, I do know what I'm talking about.
-
You say hunting has been around since the beginning of mankind. So has rape, incest, murder, etc. Does that make it right, or acceptable? And also, times change, and changing with the times keeps us in step with an advancing civilization. Stagnate and we go nowhere.
-
There are other ways to "thin the herd," and you know it. That you think you're helping the "deer survive as a species," because of overpopulation or CWD, by shooting them, is the gist of the problem. If it wasn't so sad, it would be humorous.
-
I come on these sites to express a different opinion. I do this to see if I can make some of you think differently about what you do. Usually most respond with vitriol and disrespect, like you. But some don't. And when I see that, I take heart.
-
The moron comment was a joke. If you were offended or thought it was in poor taste, I apologized. Get over it.

Huntingstinks:

I just read your 9:49 and it really pisses me off to hear a bunch of ignorant tripe like that. You live in your own little self-sanctimonious world, and everything outside of it is wrong. Let me tell you something.....
-
I've hunted since it was legal for me to do so. It was a family tradition, but a tradition that I did not take lightly, nor for granted, nor did I ever treat it ever like it had to be done. The first thing my father ever taught me about hunting was that you never kill except to eat. If you will not eat something, then you do not kill it except in self defense. Even so, I had a REALLY hard time after I came back from the Gulf War coming to grips with hunting again, because at that point in time, I didn't think I could do it, even knowing what my father had taught me, which was RIGHT.
-
What you say you say with your gut. I don't know if what you say is based on your religion (Vegan is a religion), but do us all a favor, and keep it to yourself, because you are in fact the anachronism, or the freak. Human beings have been eating other living things out of necessity for all of recorded history, and no one wants to listen to your guilt-trip of a personal ephiphany and the consequent whining and frothing at the mouth because you have an over abundance of empathy for things that would eat you out of necessity if they could or had to.
-
Go sit in an abattoir for a couple of days, why don't you? Hypocrite.

I do not kill for the thrill of it, I haven't killed anything yet. I do eat venison (deer meat for you vegans) when my wife shoots a dear. and as for the conservation aspect of it, if the herd is not thinned out by hunting they will die from the effects of overpopulation, so yes we are helping the deer to survive as a species, what do you do for them except ridicule other living beings????

sparks - you're right about something. I wouldn't call you a moron to your face, even though you might be one, because I expect you're (and Glock) as violent a person as is your "sport." I remember you; I don't have to look up your posts. Killing for sport is anachronistic. That means its time has long past. (I'll save you from running to the dictionary.) You kill for the thrill of it, to see a living being die, and not as stewards of the environment, or to eat. Until we as a society come to condemn hunting as the barbaric practice it is, we will continue to retard the advancement of civilization. Someday hunting will be as backward and passé as your thinking. It will be a long time coming, but it will be.

btw sparks you might not be a moron, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but I did like the sequence, "oxymoron, moron." I apologize for calling you a moron, and I apologize to anyone else who took offense. That is not who I am. I was more taken with the phrase than anything else. My sense of humor. Peace.

But, you're the one who started this by using the term "responsible hunters." (The oxymoron.) At least I think that's what you wrote. I can't confirm it because Big Brother has censored my posts, like they do with anything in which they disagree. Like I said before, glad to see censorship is alive and well in good ol' Janesville, WI.

i find it interesting that this article has received such little attention considering it rings eerily familiar to the intoxicated shooting that took place on the river which we all know went rampant online for 3 days. why is this less of a big deal? everyone knows when 9/10 people go hunting...they drink... there has got to be a better means of dealing with these people..the DNR can't possibly cover that much ground or check that many people... the don't have the manpower. janesvillean we can start with your house and im next on the list...its pretty sad when people have to put orange on anything they don't want shot...including horses, dogs, and even livestock.

Back up, everyone...I have to agree with our first poster....

Chelleandlou: I agree. Alcohol and guns DO not MIX. I am a female hunter. I am married to a VERY conscious and responible hunter. It is riduculous that some (very few, but still too many) hunters may enter the woods intoxicated. Good natuured so called hunters that may enjoy the Friday Night at Deer Camp atmosphere too much need to stay at deer camp the next day.

If you are wanting the commeraderie of just drinking, stay at home and do the deer widow thing. It does help the local economy.

If you truly want to hunt...I'll see you this weekend;)
