JANESVILLE—The missing hunter found dead Sunday in a wooded area west of Janesville died of a suspected accidental gunshot wound, Rock County Sheriff's Office officials said.

The hunter has been identified as Christopher J. Kealy, 36, of Janesville, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Kealy was reported missing at 12:58 p.m. Sunday after family members had not seen him since Friday night, the news release said.

Deputies were sent to the area of Fitzsimmons Road and Graham Drive in Janesville Township to search for him when they found his vehicle. Wardens from the Department of Natural Resources were called to assist the search in a large wood area. Kealy’s body was found at 2:08 p.m., the release said.

An autopsy is planned for today.

My heart aches for his wife and children. This is my biggest fear when my husband walks out the door to hunt by himself. My thoughts are with you and your family.
