Lawton e-mails reveal nothing about her decision
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — If anyone on Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton's staff knew why she was suddenly dropping out of the governor's race, they didn't let on in e-mails.
Copies of e-mails requested by The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act show that none of Lawton's three staff members mentioned the possibility of her dropping out of the race in the three days that led up to her decision.
The AP also reviewed Lawton's e-mails and she made no hints of her decision either. Lawton also revealed little when she replied to well wishers, simply saying it was a difficult decision to drop out.
The AP on Monday reviewed all e-mails sent or received by Lawton and her three full-time staff members between Oct. 23 and Oct. 28. Lawton announced her surprise decision on Oct. 26.
