TOMAH, Wis. (AP) — Ed Thompson says he won't seek re-election as Tomah mayor and will instead concentrate on running for a state Senate seat.

Thompson says he has a "tough fight" ahead to unseat Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, a Democrat from Alma, in District 31.

Thompson is running as a Republican. He ran an unsuccessful campaign for governor in 2002 as a Libertarian. He's the brother of former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson.
